Until recently, Cronartium ribicola was found as far south as the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains in California. In late 2021 and early 2022, infected Ribes aureum was found in two locations, one near the city of San Bernardino, and the other near Los Angeles respectively. It was confirmed as C. ribicola with qPCR. To date, it has not been found on any white pine species in southern California.
Reply: Thank you for this information Dr. Barnes. It is unfortunate that C. ribicola has been found even further south on Ribes spp. in Southern California. We had an official record from San Bernardino County but not from Los Angeles County.
