California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Animal Health Branch has released a Notification to California Producers and Veterinarians Regarding New World Screwworm (NWS) being Detected in Texas. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been proactive in preparing for New World screwworm (NWS), and is leading an aggressive national, One Health response to the detection of the pest in Texas and New Mexico. The best source of information regarding NWS is USDA’s screwworm.gov.
CDFA’s Commercial Feed Regulatory Program (CFRP) and Livestock Drug Program (LDP) regulate the distribution and use of commercial feed and livestock drugs within and into California. Currently, there are no approved medicated articles for use in medicated feed that are safe and effective in preventing or controlling NWS.
