Efficient Irrigation and Nitrogen Use Workshop

What: Hosted by the California Almond Sustainability Program, this workshop gives almond growers an opportunity to learn about tools and techniques to increase irrigation efficiency through Almond Board of California’s (ABC’s) Irrigation Continuum, and to improve the accuracy of nitrogen applications through the use of an online budgeting tool. A complimentary lunch is included for those who RSVP.

Grower Nitrogen Management Training

What: Funded by the Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), Central Valley Water Quality Coalitions are organizing training for growers who want to certify their own Nitrogen Management Plans (NMP) for irrigated lands located in High Vulnerability areas. Participants will take a test before they can sign off on their own NMPs.

CDFA-UC ANR Nitrogen Management Training for CCAs

What: To improve CCAs’ understanding of sound nitrogen management practices and increase their ability to make informed recommendations to growers, FREP/CDFA and the UC ANR are offering training for CCAs. This training will enable CCAs to certify grower’s nitrogen management plans in the Central Valley. CEUs are provided.

Ag Day

What: California Ag Day is part of a National Ag Day campaign to recognize the significance of agriculture in our lives by showcasing a variety of resources for the public to learn about. Held on the same day as “Take Your Child to Work Day.” www.cdfa.ca.gov/agday/

New Fertigation Course

What: Cal Poly ITRC and the Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) of the CDFA are providing a 1-day short course on Fertigation. The course will cover new techniques in the control and application of fertilizers through irrigation systems and strategies to conform with the new nitrogen regulations in California.  Other topics include nitrogen fertilizers, challenges with phosphorus and potassium applications, growth enhancers, organic-compliant ways to keep drip systems clean, and increasing yields per acre-foot of evapotranspiration (ET) through better fertility management – a key topic for California growers.
