{"id":251,"date":"2026-01-14T13:08:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T21:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.cdfa.ca.gov\/oars-blog\/?p=251"},"modified":"2026-01-20T10:49:55","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T18:49:55","slug":"stakeholders-provide-input-on-draft-of-the-climate-resilience-strategy-for-ca-agriculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cdfa.ca.gov\/oars-blog\/index.php\/2026\/01\/14\/stakeholders-provide-input-on-draft-of-the-climate-resilience-strategy-for-ca-agriculture\/","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders provide input on\u00a0draft of the Climate Resilience Strategy for CA Agriculture\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over the last year and a half, CDFA has been&nbsp;hard at work&nbsp;on&nbsp;our&nbsp;first ever Climate Resilience Strategy for California Agriculture&nbsp;(RSA)&nbsp;led by&nbsp;Deputy Secretary for Climate and Working Lands Virginia Jameson.&nbsp;The RSA lays out the&nbsp;climate change&nbsp;challenges&nbsp;affecting&nbsp;our agricultural system and what the state is already doing\u2014including investing in tools and innovations,&nbsp;developing&nbsp;and&nbsp;administering&nbsp;programs, offering technical&nbsp;assistance\u2014and highlights where there are opportunities for the state to do more.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State&nbsp;agency staff, including&nbsp;staff from the Office of Agriculture Resilience and Sustainability&nbsp;(OARS),&nbsp;utilized&nbsp;their&nbsp;expertise&nbsp;in agriculture and climate impacts to&nbsp;prepare&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/climate\/docs\/RSA_PublicCommentDraft.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a draft of the RSA for public comment<\/a>&nbsp;that was available&nbsp;October 7, 2025 \u2013 November 21, 2025.&nbsp;CDFA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/climate\/2025publiccomments.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">received 30 letters by email and more than 250 comments<\/a>&nbsp;through the&nbsp;online&nbsp;commenting system.&nbsp;CDFA is&nbsp;very grateful&nbsp;to all of&nbsp;you&nbsp;who took the time to provide thoughtful and detailed comments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally,&nbsp;stakeholders&nbsp;were&nbsp;supportive of the&nbsp;RSA&nbsp;and were happy to see&nbsp;its&nbsp;comprehensive approach. Many&nbsp;commenters&nbsp;offered support for&nbsp;existing&nbsp;OARS&nbsp;Climate-&nbsp;Smart&nbsp;Agriculture programs.&nbsp;Below are a few of the common themes we saw in the comments:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stakeholder interest in\u00a0a focus on\u00a0regulatory\u00a0streamlining and improved\u00a0state\u00a0agency collaboration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A need for tools\u00a0to improve fertilizer use and nutrient management\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An interest\u00a0in pursuing\u00a0California\u2019s energy and farmland conservation\u00a0goals\u00a0simultaneously through solutions like\u00a0agrivoltaics\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revisions\u00a0on\u00a0the discussion of\u00a0voluntary carbon\u00a0and ecosystem service\u00a0markets\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0development\u00a0of metrics to track\u00a0progress on climate action in agriculture\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognizing the impacts\u00a0on\u00a0and the importance of targeted resources for\u00a0small and diversified farms\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The need for\u00a0on-farm\u00a0technological\u00a0advancements and\u00a0equitable\u00a0access\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>OARS&nbsp;Staff&nbsp;are collaborating with other state agency staff to&nbsp;review and address&nbsp;comments&nbsp;to refine the&nbsp;RSA&nbsp;and uplift stakeholder suggestions&nbsp;where possible.&nbsp;We expect the final&nbsp;RSA to be available in 2026&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/climate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">check out the RSA website for more updates and information<\/a>.
