(taro), <em>Anthurium andraeanum <\/em>(flamingo lily); <strong>Calophyllaceae<\/strong>: <em>Calophyllum inophyllum <\/em>(Alexandrian laurel); <strong>Clusiaceae:<\/strong> <em>Garcinia eugenifolia <\/em>(saptree); <strong>Dillenaceae:<\/strong> <em>Dillenia <\/em>spp.; <strong>Lamiaceae:<\/strong> <em>Ocimum <\/em>spp. (basil); <strong>Lecythidaceae:<\/strong> <em>Barringtonia <\/em>sp.; <strong>Phyllanthaceae:<\/strong> <em>Antidesma <\/em>spp. (chinalaurel); <strong>Piperaceae:<\/strong> <em>Piper betel<\/em>; <strong>Rubiaceae:<\/strong> <em>Gardenia jasminoides <\/em>(cape jasmine), <em>G. taitensis <\/em>(Tahitian gardenia), <em>Ixora <\/em>spp., <em>Morinda citrifolia <\/em>(Indian mulberry); <strong>Smilacaceae<\/strong>: <em>Smilax <\/em>sp.\u00a0 The whitefly can be transported long distances when infested plants or fresh plant parts are moved.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Worldwide Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> is native to Taiwan.\u00a0 From there is has spread to Nauru, Palau, Tahiti, Western Samoa, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Sulawesi, Thailand, Guadeloupe, and Saint Lucia.\u00a0 In the United States it has been found in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Florida.<\/p>\n<p><u>Official Control<\/u>: <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> is not known to be under official control in any other states or nations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> has never been found in the environment of California.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Interceptions<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> was intercepted by CDFA 6 times between January 1, 1987 and September 27, 2016 on shipments of fresh plant parts from Hawaii, usually betel leaves (<em>Piper betel<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The risk <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> (whitefly) would pose to California is evaluated below.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Consequences of Introduction:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>1) Climate\/Host Interaction:<\/strong> According to the NPAG report <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> is expected to establish a widespread distribution in California. It receives a <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>High (3)<\/strong><\/span> in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate if the pest would have suitable hosts and climate to establish in California.\u00a0 Score:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <strong>Low (1)<\/strong> Not likely to establish in California; or likely to establish in very limited areas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <strong>Medium (2)<\/strong> may be able to establish in a larger but limited part of California.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8211; <strong>High (3)<\/strong> likely to establish a widespread distribution in California.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Known Pest Host Range:<\/strong> <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae <\/em>is known to feed on plants in 13 genera in 10 families.\u00a0 It receives a <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>High (3)<\/strong><\/span> in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate the host range of the pest. Score:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <strong>Low (1)<\/strong> has a very limited host range.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <strong>Medium (2)<\/strong> has a moderate host range.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8211; <strong>High (3)<\/strong> has a wide host range.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Pest Dispersal Potential:<\/strong> Whiteflies are capable of rapid reproduction and can be transported long distances when infested plants or fresh plant parts are moved.\u00a0 <em>Asiothrixus antidesmae<\/em> receives a<span style=\"color: #008000;\"> <strong>High (3)<\/strong><\/span> in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate the natural and artificial dispersal potential of the pest.
