<strong>Verbenaceae<\/strong>: <em>Lantana commersoni<\/em><sup>1,2<\/sup>.\u00a0 The scale can spread long distances when infested plants or plant products are moved in commerce.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Worldwide Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> is widespread in Afrotropical, Australasian, Nearctic, Neotropical, Oriental, and Palearctic regions<sup>2<\/sup>.\u00a0 In the United States it can be found in Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico &amp; Vieques Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Hawaiian Islands<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Official Control<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> is listed as a quarantine pest by Costa Rica, Japan, New Zealand, and Seychelles.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Distribution<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong> <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> has never been found in the environment of California.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Interceptions<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> is commonly intercepted.\u00a0 Between January 1, 2000 and December 4, 2014 the scale was intercepted 857 times.\u00a0 Interceptions were typically on plants or plant material imported from Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The risk <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> (boxwood scale) would pose to California is evaluated below.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Consequences of Introduction:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>1) Climate\/Host Interaction:<\/strong> <em>Pinnaspis buxi<\/em> is highly polyphagous and feeds on a wide variety of plants, many of which are grown in California.
