<strong>Vitaceae<\/strong>: <em>Vitis vinifera<\/em><sup>1<\/sup>, <strong>Zamiaceae<\/strong>: <em>Zamia<\/em><sup>1<\/sup><em>;<\/em> <strong>Zingiberaceae<\/strong>: <em>Alpinia nutans<\/em><sup>1<\/sup>.\u00a0 <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> may be transported long distances when infested plants or fresh plant parts are moved.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Worldwide Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> is presumably native to Asia and has spread through much of the Neotropical, Afrotropical, Palearctic, and Oceanic regions.\u00a0 In North America it is only known to be established in Florida<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Official Control<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Aonidiella<\/em> <em>orientalis<\/em> is listed as a harmful organism by Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Japan, and the Republic of Korea<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Distribution<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong> <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> has never been found in California.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Interceptions<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong> From 1987 through 2015 <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> was intercepted 225 times by CDFA\u2019s high risk programs, dog teams, and border stations.\u00a0 Many of these interceptions have been on coconut, papaya, and mango from Florida, Brazil, and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The risk <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> (Oriental scale) would pose to California is evaluated below.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Consequences of Introduction:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>1) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Climate\/Host Interaction<\/span>:<\/strong> Due to its highly polyphagous nature and known distribution across a range of climates <em>Aonidiella orientalis<\/em> can be expected to establish a widespread distribution in California.\u00a0 It receives a <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>High (3)<\/strong><\/span> in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate if the pest would have suitable hosts and climate to establish in California.\u00a0 Score:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;
