Primary hosts are: <strong>Rutaceae:<\/strong> <em>Citrus bergamia<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (bergamot orange), <em>Citrus aurantium<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (orange), <em>Citrus limonia<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (lemon), <em>Citrus<\/em> spp.<sup>3<\/sup>; <strong>Caprifoliaceae:<\/strong> <em>Lonicera<\/em> spp.<sup>2<\/sup> (honeysuckle), <strong>Oleaceae:<\/strong> <em>Jasminum fruticans<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (wild jasmine), <strong>Pittosporaceae:<\/strong> <em>Pittosporum tobira<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (Japanese mock-orange).\u00a0 Other hosts include: Anacardiaceae: <em>Mangifera indica<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (mango); <strong>Apiaceae:<\/strong> <em>Daucus carota<\/em> (Queen Anne\u2019s lace)<em>, Foeniculum vulgare<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (fennel); <strong>Apocynaceae:<\/strong> <em>Araujia sericifera<\/em><sup>5<\/sup> (moth plant); <strong>Asteraceae:<\/strong> <em>Helianthus<\/em> spp. (sunflower)<em>, Senecio<\/em> spp.<sup>2<\/sup> (ragworts)<em>, Anthemis cotula<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (stinking chamomile)<em>, Leucanthemum vulgare<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (ox-eye daisy)<em>, Sonchus oleraceus<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (common sowthistle), <em>Calendula arvensis<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (field marigold), <em>Urospermum picroides<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (prickly goldenfleece); <strong>Brassicaceae:<\/strong> <em>Brassica<\/em> spp.<sup>2<\/sup> (mustard)<em>, Brassica rapa sylvestris<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (wild turnip), <em>Sinaspis alba<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (white mustard); <strong>Fabaceae:<\/strong> <em>Trifolium repens<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (white clover)<em>, Trifolium pratense<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (red clover); <strong>Lauraceae:<\/strong> <em>Persea americana<\/em> (avocado); <strong>Malvaceae: <\/strong><em>Malva nicaeensis<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (bull mallow), <em>Malva sylvestris<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (common mallow); <strong>Oleaceae:<\/strong> <em>Jasminum officinale<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (jasmine); <em>Jasminum sambac<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (Arabian jasmine), <em>Ligustrum vulgare<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (wild privet); <strong>Oxalidaceae: <\/strong><em>Oxalis pes-caprae<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (Bermuda buttercup); <strong>Pittosporaceae:<\/strong> <em>Hymenosporum<\/em> sp.<sup>1<\/sup> (native frangipani);<strong> Rosaceae:<\/strong> <em>Eriobotrya japonica<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (loquat); <em>Prunus dulcis<\/em> (almond)<sup>3<\/sup>; <em>Rubus fruticosus<\/em><sup>2<\/sup> (blackberry); <strong>Rubiaceae: <\/strong><em>Gardenia jasminoides<\/em><sup>3<\/sup> (gardenia); <strong>Solanaceae:<\/strong> <em>Lycopersicon <\/em>spp.<sup>2<\/sup> (tomato).\u00a0 <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> may be transported long distances when infested plants, fresh plant parts, or soil or leaf litter is moved.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Worldwide Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> is probably native to Australia<sup>1<\/sup>.\u00a0 From there it has spread to New Zealand<sup>1<\/sup>, New Caledonia<sup>1<\/sup>, France<sup>1<\/sup>, Italy<sup>1<\/sup>, Greece<sup>1<\/sup>, Cyprus<sup>1<\/sup>, Turkey<sup>1<\/sup>, Spain<sup>2<\/sup>, Portugal<sup>2<\/sup>, and Israel<sup>2<\/sup>.\u00a0 Recent interceptions indicate that it could be present in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Official Control<\/u>:<\/strong> <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> is listed as a harmful organism by Chile and Japan<sup>4<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Distribution<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> has never been found in the environment of California.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>California Interceptions<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 From 2001 and 2015 <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> has been intercepted by CDFA 13 times on shipments of leis from Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>The risk <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> (Kelly\u2019s Citrus Thrips) would pose to California is evaluated below.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Consequences of Introduction:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>1) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Climate\/Host Interaction<\/span>:<\/strong> <em>Pezothrips kellyanus<\/em> is established in areas with climates similar to California and is expected to encounter suitable host material throughout much of the state.
