{"id":59,"date":"2015-12-04T22:34:53","date_gmt":"2015-12-05T06:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cdfa.ca.gov\/FREP\/?p=59"},"modified":"2026-04-02T13:09:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T20:09:34","slug":"welcome-to-the-frep-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cdfa.ca.gov\/FREP\/index.php\/welcome-to-the-frep-blog\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the FREP Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) has created this blog to give you the latest nutrient management news and information for California growers, advisors, researchers and agencies.<\/p>\n<h3>Bringing Research into Practice<\/h3>\n<p>To bridge the gap between research conclusions and farming practices in the field, FREP is engaged in several outreach and educational activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/ffldrs\/frep\/Outreach_Ed.html\">annual conference<\/a> is the event to attend to learn about new discoveries made in research, and techniques for managing agricultural nutrients. The FREP conference for 2015 was held in Seaside, California, on November 5 and 6.<\/li>\n<li>At the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/frep\/Default.aspx\">FREP database<\/a>, explore the history of FREP research using keywords and specific search criteria.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.cdfa.ca.gov\/frep\/docs\/Guidelines.html\">Crop Fertilization Guidelines<\/a> provide access to nutrient requirements for California crops.<\/li>\n<li>Since 2014, FREP and the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) have partnered to provide nitrogen management training for Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs) throughout California.<\/li>\n<li>Grower coalitions in the Central Valley are working with FREP to bring nitrogen management training to growers. Through this training, the growers will be able to self-certify their own nitrogen management plans as required by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, the project leaders of FREP-funded projects have field days, demonstrations, and seminars to showcase the research results of FREP-funded projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cdfa.ca.gov\/FREP\/?page_id=24\">calendar<\/a> and sign up to get FREP blog updates in your inbox.
