CDFA Announces Vacancies on Fertilizer Research and Education Program’s Technical Advisory Subcommittee

The California Department of Food and Agriculture is announcing three vacancies on the Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board’s (FIAB) Technical Advisory Subcommittee. This subcommittee serves as an expert scientific panel on matters concerning plant nutrition and nutrient management related to fertilizing materials use. It reviews all research and education proposals for the annual Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) Grant Program and recommends which projects should receive funding.

FREP funds and facilitates research to advance the environmentally safe and agronomically sound use and handling of fertilizing materials. FREP serves growers, agricultural supply and service professionals, extension personnel, public agencies, consultants and other interested parties. FREP is funded through a mill assessment on the sale of fertilizing materials.

The FIAB Technical Advisory Subcommittee applicants must demonstrate technical, applied and scientific expertise in the fields of agronomy, soil science, plant physiology, production agriculture and/or environmental issues related to fertilizer use in California.

The term of office for subcommittee members is three years. Members receive no compensation but are entitled to payment of necessary travel expenses. Individuals interested in being considered for appointment should send a curriculum vitae and Prospective Member Appointment Questionnaire to FREP@cdfa.ca.gov. The application deadline is July 14, 2021.
