Delta Corn Field Meeting @ Mello Farms, Tyler Island

UC Cooperative Extension will host the annual corn field meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2018, from 10:00am to noon, on Tyler Island in Sacramento County. The agenda is pasted below and attached. Farmer Spotlight: Successful Cover Cropping on any Farm @ Norton Hall

Join Jim Durst (Durst Organic Farms) and Eric Brennan (USDA) for an afternoon of conversation on the ins and outs of successful on-farm production and management of cover crops. The learning lab will be discussion based and potluck style and will be facilitated by Margaret Lloyd (UCCE Small Farms Advisor). We will explore a range of topics, including: the benefits of cover cropping, how to implement them into your specific farming operation, and the economics of implementing. Please bring a dish to share or simply join us for discussion.

Crop Estimation Tailgate

Estimating yield is both important and difficult. Accurate projections of crop size are necessary for both logistical and financial planning. Growers will share their experience and wisdom when it comes to estimating a crop including their methods, tips and techniques. Different methods will  be compared and discussed. We will also dip into the theory behind making estimates.
