Cover Crop Field Workshop

Do you have questions on timing and methods for incorporating cover crop residue back into your soil? Or how to manage a cover crop through the spring and summer months?

Join the UC Cooperative Extension, Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County, USDA Agricultural Research Service, and Pajaro Valley growers at a cover crop field workshop. There you will share ideas with other growers and cover crop researchers on the benefits, challenges, and management strategies for including cover crop in many different production scenarios, including:

• Covered fallow rotations

• Management of cover crop in the spring and summer

• Cover cropping in the furrows in strawberry and vegetable systems

California Irrigation Institute Conference @ Hilton Sacramento

Crop Estimation Tailgate

Estimating yield is both important and difficult. Accurate projections of crop size are necessary for both logistical and financial planning. Growers will share their experience and wisdom when it comes to estimating a crop including their methods, tips and techniques. Different methods will  be compared and discussed. We will also dip into the theory behind making estimates.

National Grape Research Alliance Sensor Technology Workshop @ Embassy Suites, Sacramento

The USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the National Grape Research Alliance (NGRA) are
partnering to produce the NGRA-ARS Sensor Technology Workshop to be held this fall in Sacramento, CA.
Join wine and grape industry principals to hear from scientists about the sensors
that support  grape-growing today (including the strengths and shortcomings of these offerings),
what’s in the research pipeline and what advances are on the horizon.
In this dynamic event, the scientists will gain valuable insight about sensor technologies, too,
from a panel of early-adopters, from industry attendees and from fellow researchers, as well.

Western Alfalfa and Forage Symposium @ Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, NV

What is the Alfalfa Symposium?
The Western Alfalfa & Forage Symposium is a comprehensive program on the many issues facing alfalfa and forage crops.  Forages represent a major component of western farming and impact many other enterprises such as dairy farming, beef production, sheep, goats, as well as honey, agricultural industries and environmental issues.  This symposium covers topics ranging from economics and markets, regulatory trends, industry issues, pest management, forage quality, irrigation, genetics to impacts and the environment.  The symposium is a “must” for anyone interested in these important crops.

Organizational Process
The 2019 Western Alfalfa & Forage Symposium is organized by University Cooperative Extension Services of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, in cooperation with grower members of the California Alfalfa & Forage Association.  The symposium is currently in its 49th year, and is hosted by the California Alfalfa & Forage Association, representing thousands of California forage growers.

Who Should Attend?
Farmers, Pest Control Advisors, Certified Crop Advisors, industry members, agency representatives, Cooperative Extension personnel, and anyone who wishes to be informed about important issues related to alfalfa and forages.
