Fertigation Short Course @ Irrigation and Training Research Center
Aug 12 @ 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

This class will cover new techniques in the control and application of fertilizers through irrigation systems and strategies to conform with the intent of the new nitrogen regulations in California. Other topics include nitrogen fertilizers, challenges with phosphorus and potassium applications, growth enhancers, and organic-compliant ways to keep drip systems clean. Increasing yields per acre-foot of evapotranspiration (ET) through better fertility management will also be discussed.

Madera County Irrigation Training Day @ Madera County FB
Aug 27 @ 8:00 am – 10:00 am

Tuesday, August 27 from 8:00-10:00
Madera County Farm Bureau, 1102 S Pine St, Madera, CA 93637

Interested in learning more about how to use evapotranspiration, soil sensors, and the pressure chamber to improve your irrigation practices?  Want to learn how to irrigate better but don’t know where to start? Join us for an introductory irrigation training, where Phoebe Gordon (Orchard Crops) and Karl Lund (Vineyards) will teach you how to:

  • Convert hours irrigated into inches of water per acre
Calculate your orchard or vineyard’s stored water
Use ET to calculate the required water for your orchard or vineyard
Use soil sensors to time irrigation sets
Using the pressure bomb as a practice check or to manage reduced irrigation programs

Seats are limited, so registration is required (but free!).

Water Use Efficiency and Nitrogen Management Plans @ Center for Irrigation Technology
Oct 17 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am

This event will assist attendees in understanding Distribution Uniformity (DU) and how it affects water use efficiency. Additionally, attendees will get a basic understanding of how water moves in the soil, how nitrogen (nitrates) move with that water, and how to keep nutrients and water in the root zone. This will assist growers with compliance for NMPs. Different examples will be sited. The event will provide CURES credits and for CCAs.

What?

The USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the National Grape Research Alliance (NGRA) are
partnering to produce the NGRA-ARS Sensor Technology Workshop to be held this fall in Sacramento, CA.
Join wine and grape industry principals to hear from scientists about the sensors
that support  grape-growing today (including the strengths and shortcomings of these offerings),
what’s in the research pipeline and what advances are on the horizon.
In this dynamic event, the scientists will gain valuable insight about sensor technologies, too,
from a panel of early-adopters, from industry attendees and from fellow researchers, as well.
Be a part of the exploration!
