Organic Soil Fertility for Vegetables and Strawberries Short Course @ University of California Agricultural Center

This short course will focus on the practical aspects of organic soil fertility management for fast-maturing leafy green vegetables and long-season strawberry production.

Topics will focus on the contribution of various sources of nitrogen for crop production, including mineralization from soil organic matter, release of inorganic nitrogen from organic fertilizers and composts, and the contribution of prior crop residues, cover crops, and irrigation water.

Growers, consultants, and those involved in organic soil fertility management will find this course valuable.

Water Measurement and Reporting Course @ Shasta College Farm

California water rights holders are required by state law to measure and report the water they divert from surface streams. For people who wish to take the water measurements themselves, the University of California Cooperative Extension is offering training to receive certification at two locations on April 4.

At the workshop, participants will:

  • Clarify reporting requirements for ranches.
  • Understand which meters are appropriate for different situations.
  • Learn how to determine measurement equipment accuracy.
  • Develop an understanding of measurement weirs.
  • Learn how to calculate and report volume from flow data.

Water and Nitrogen Use Webinar -Vineyard Team @ Online

Calculating the amount of water and Nitrogen applied to a vineyard is important for tracking inputs and improving efficiency. This webinar covers:

  • Soil and water analysis reports interpretation
    How to calculate total water applied from irrigation, frost protection, and rainfall
    How to calculate total nitrogen applied from fertilizer, compost, and water
    Attendees are encouraged to have their water and nitrogen use records on hand.
