Crop Estimation Tailgate

Estimating yield is both important and difficult. Accurate projections of crop size are necessary for both logistical and financial planning. Growers will share their experience and wisdom when it comes to estimating a crop including their methods, tips and techniques. Different methods will  be compared and discussed. We will also dip into the theory behind making estimates.

Healthy Soil Summit @ UC Davis Conference Center
Aug 21 – Aug 22 all-day

The program will consist of an optional half-day farm tour (SOLD OUT) and one and a half days of sessions on successful farm management strategies as well as time to engage with speakers and fellow attendees to build business relationships and peer networks.

Between 8 and 10 CEU’s will be offered at the Summit.

Expert speakers with expert advise on proven methods for creating healthy, productive soil will include John Kempf, Pam Marrone, Glen Rabenberg and Gary Zimmer to name a few.

TRADE SHOW
17 companies will be on hand to answer questions and speak from experience on addressing challenges and reducing risk to drive whole-farm success.

Delta Corn and Small Grains Field Meeting @ Mello Farms

UC Cooperative Extension will host the annual corn field meeting on Tuesday, October 15th, from 10:00-11:30am, on Tyler Island in Sacramento County. The agenda is pasted below and attached. In addition to providing information on the annual corn variety trial, this year’s agenda includes presentations on nitrogen management for the upcoming small grains season. The attached version of the agenda includes a map and directions to the field site. We have applied for CCA continuing education credits, and light refreshments will be provided. We have submitted applications for continuing education for pesticide licensing and certified crop advisors. We have also submitted an application for nitrogen management continuing education, which would help to satisfy growers’ continuing education requirement for the Irrigated Lands Program. Applications are pending.
