The association includes inspectors from throughout the country and Secretary Ross thanked them for working to maintain quality standards and specifications in produce brought to market to maintain the integrity consumers expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Secretary Ross also celebrated the work of CDFA inspectors and laboratory staff in the Inspection Services Division by mentioning some figures from last year, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/i_&amp;_c\/spi.html\">Shipping Point Inspection Program<\/a>\u00a0inspected more than\u00a0<strong>$6 billion worth of fresh produce<\/strong>, including\u00a0<strong>4 billion pounds of almonds<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>14.2 million pounds of table grapes<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>79 million pounds of kiwis<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/producesafety\/\">Produce Safety Program<\/a>\u00a0and Food Safety Auditing Unit performed over\u00a0<strong>1,100 food safety inspections and audits<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/cac\/\">Center for Analytical Chemistry<\/a>\u00a0performed more than 1<strong>8,000 analyses<\/strong>\u00a0on more than\u00a0<strong>11,000 samples<\/strong>, generating more than\u00a0<strong>3 million data points<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/ffldrs\/fertilizer.html\">Fertilizing Materials Inspection Program<\/a>\u00a0reviewed\u00a0<strong>5,786 fertilizer product labels<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/is\/organicprogram\/\">California State Organic Program<\/a>\u00a0staff conducted more than\u00a0<strong>1,500 inspections<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/index.php\/2026\/05\/14\/secretary-ross-discusses-importance-of-fruit-and-vegetable-inspections-at-national-conference-in-san-diego\">Click here<\/a> to view this original CDFA Planting Seeds blog post. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CDFA Secretary Karen Ross spoke to attendees of the 2026 Association of Fruits &amp; Vegetables Inspection &amp; Standardization Agencies (AFVISA) Conference on Wednesday, May 13.
