2018 Request for Proposals

CDFA FREP Grant Process

Steps of the FREP grant process

The Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) funds and facilitates research to advance the environmentally safe and agronomically sound use of fertilizer in California. The FREP grant program uses a two-phase annual process. Phase I, the submission of concept proposals, is now open!

Each year, research priorities are released in December with the Request for Proposals (RFP). Proposals may focus on research and/or education projects to provide growers and the industry with cost-effective practices to improve the efficient use of fertilizers and reduce environmental impacts. For details about this year’s priority areas, visit the FREP Grant website.

Concept proposals are reviewed by the Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board’s Technical Advisory Subcommittee (TASC). The TASC is a diverse group of agricultural experts and fertilizer industry representatives. They determine which submissions will be invited to Phase II, full proposals.

This year’s RFP was released December 14, and concept proposals are due by 5pm on January 31, 2018.
