The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) has teamed up with the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA) and the Western Region Certified Crop Adviser Board (WRCCA) to host a nitrogen management update meeting on October 13, 2018, open to all agricultural professionals. The meeting will be […]
Every fall, the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) and the Western Plant Health Association (WPHA) host a two-day nutrient management conference. The agenda focuses on the latest FREP-funded research results and practical applications of fertilizing materials for agricultural production in the state of California. On October 23 and […]
On June 6, 2018, FREP teamed up with the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources and the Agricultural Sustainability Institute of the University of California, Davis, to host a Biochar Field Day. The event brought together over 100 stakeholders from industry, academia and government to discuss and learn about past and ongoing research with […]
This field day will demonstrate the results of a FREP-funded study on evaluating the benefits of nitrogen management practices in walnuts. The objective of the study was to understand how split fertilizer applications affect nitrate movement below the root zone. This study also sought to quantify the benefits of efficient nitrogen management practices, including potential […]
What: The use of biochar in agriculture is a topic that has been generating interest across California. New products are being developed for agricultural applications, and new research on the effects of biochar in cropping systems is underway at many universities. The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) […]
FREP created this guide to underscore the importance of outreach in research and education projects. Outreach is an essential complement to research, and varying your methods of dissemination can increase general understanding, impact, and response. View the FREP Field Day Guide.
What is CropManage? CropManage is a free online decision support tool for irrigation and nutrient management in a variety of crops. Designed by the University of California (UC), this tool helps growers, irrigators and ranch managers make confident production decisions based on research and real-time data.
What: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR) and the Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) of CDFA are offering a one-and-a-half day Nitrogen Management Training to California Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs).
What: A one-day short course on fertigation is being offered by the Cal Poly Irrigation Training and Research Center (ITRC) with funding from the Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP). The course covers new techniques in the control and application of fertilizers through irrigation systems, and strategies to comply with new nitrogen regulations in California.
Regulations adopted by the Central Valley Regional Water Board require growers to prepare an annual Nitrogen Management Plan (NMP) for land enrolled in the Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program. If a growers’ fields are located in high vulnerability areas, their NMPs must be certified. Certified Crop Advisers with Nitrogen Management Training can certify these plans or […]
